Steel furniture, a design choice

The furniture sector is constantly evolving and is able to offer an ever-wider range of materials and finishes. In this frame, even the most classic materials occupy a space in the world of design. This is the case of stainless steel which, thanks to its versatility and resistance, without neglecting its beauty and shine, still remains a much loved and used metal in design furniture.

What is stainless steel?

Steel is an alloy composed mainly of iron and carbon, to which other elements are added in order to give it different qualities. Its stainless-steel variant is created by adding chromium to the alloy. The latter gives it greater resistance to oxidation and corrosion compared to other steels, especially in moist air or fresh water.

This type of steel is considered a "sterile" material since it has a molecular structure that allows us to easily remove dirt and bacteria. For this reason, stainless steel is widely used in our daily life and makes our homes safer and more functional.

Steel and design

The structural characteristics of stainless steel have meant that it was used extensively in furnishings to make homes safer and more functional.

Although its colour with silvery flashes tends to look a "minimalist and austere", stainless steel is able to make the environment glamorous and bright if used correctly. In addition, it combines beautifully with many other natural materials such as wood and glass, in this way creating combinations with an elegant and clean effect.

For this reason, TrackDesign has chosen to offer two stainless steel finishes in its palette of metal finishes:

Brushed stainless steel is the best quality finish and is obtained by brushing the metal sheet with abrasive cloth. A design piece of furniture in brushed stainless steel is not only easy to clean by following the edge of the brushing but is also suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments.

The mirror-polished stainless-steel shares with its brushed version the same resistance and adaptability to different environments. The steel of this finish is enhanced and finished to exactly reproduce the effect of a mirror, making it exceptional to make a space wider.
