Green Buildings Directive 2030: How TrackDesign Responds to Zero-Emission Buildings

TrackDesign: innovative solutions for the energy transition.

From 2030, buildings will have to be zero-emission. TrackDesign is ahead of the European directive with photovoltaic canopies and integrated systems that make an efficient and sustainable energy transition possible.

Towards 2030: the European directive that is changing the face of construction

Europe has charted a clear course: by 2050 it wants to become the first climate-neutral continent. One of the fundamental steps to reach this goal concerns the construction sector, today responsible for 40% of energy consumption in Europe.

For this reason, with the new EPBD IV Directive (EU/2024/1275), approved in May 2024, the European Union is introducing an epochal change: from 2030, all new buildings will have to be zero-emission.

A clear leap compared to the current standard of “nearly zero-energy buildings” (NZEB), in force since 2020, which will be replaced by even stricter requirements to reduce CO₂ emissions and encourage the exclusive use of renewable energy.

From “nearly zero” to “zero emissions”: here is what changes!

According to the new directive:

  • from 1 January 2028, newly built public buildings will have to be zero-emission;
  • from 1 January 2030, the same requirement will apply to all new residential and non-residential buildings.

But what is meant by a zero-emission building?

According to the EU, a zero-emission building:

  • must have very high energy performance;
  • must not produce on-site carbon emissions from fossil fuels;
  • the remaining energy required must come from local or nearby renewable sources, such as photovoltaics, energy communities, or efficient district heating or cooling.

TrackDesign: innovative solutions for the energy transition

In this rapidly changing regulatory context, TrackDesign positions itself as a protagonist of the green revolution by offering cutting-edge photovoltaic solutions that go beyond traditional rooftop systems. TrackDesign photovoltaic canopies: innovation and functionality.

The flagship of the TrackDesign offering are the photovoltaic canopies, innovative structures that combine protection, design and clean energy production. These solutions are the ideal answer for:

  • Company and residential car parks: turning parking areas into energy production plants
  • Commercial spaces: offering shelter and comfort to customers while generating energy
  • Public areas: creating multifunctional shaded zones with zero impact
  • Private courtyards and gardens: maximising the use of outdoor spaces
